A Guide to Turkish Street Food: From Adana to Shawarma
Kebys Team·8 April 2026
Turkish street food is one of the world's great culinary traditions. From the bustling bazaars of Istanbul to the quiet grills of Anatolian villages, the food is bold, simple, and deeply satisfying. At Kebys, we bring those flavours to Birmingham.
The Doner Kebab — The most famous Turkish export. Layers of seasoned meat, slow-cooked on a vertical rotisserie, shaved to order. The key is patience: a great doner needs hours of slow rotation to develop that caramelised exterior and juicy interior.
Adana Kofte — Named after the city of Adana in southern Turkey, this is hand-minced lamb mixed with red pepper flakes and grilled on flat skewers over charcoal. It's spicy, smoky, and packed with flavour. Our version stays true to the original.
Chicken Shish — Cubes of chicken breast, marinated overnight in yogurt, lemon, and Turkish spices, then chargrilled to perfection. Simple but extraordinary when done right.
Shawarma — While originally Levantine rather than Turkish, shawarma has become a staple across the Middle East and Turkey alike. Slow-roasted on a vertical spit, thinly sliced, and served in a warm wrap with garlic sauce.
Falafel — Crispy on the outside, soft and herbaceous inside. Made from chickpeas, fresh herbs, and spices, then deep-fried to golden perfection. Our falafel wraps are one of our most popular vegan options.
Every dish on our menu carries a piece of this tradition. We don't just cook food — we honour a culinary heritage that stretches back centuries.
