We are not going to shout "The Best" in capital letters and leave it there. Great Barr has plenty of contenders, from chains to gastropubs to the smash-burger pop-ups that come and go. What makes the best burger Great Barr can offer?
Three things separate a good burger from a forgettable one: the patty, the sauce and the bun. Most takeaways get one of those right. Some manage two. Very few get all three on the same plate.
The hamburger has travelled a long way from its German-American origins to a Tuesday-night order on Bowstoke Road, and the basics have not changed much. Good meat, cooked well, dressed with intent. Here is how we handle each part.
The patty
Our beef patties are double-stacked on the signature Hot House, two seared, not one. We do not pre-cook them. They hit the griddle when your order prints and come off when your order is boxed, which is why they arrive juicy rather than tired and grey.
The blend matters as much as the cooking. We use a beef mix with enough fat to baste itself on the grill, roughly 20 per cent. Too lean and the patty dries out on the trip to your table. Too fatty and it collapses. The seasoning is salt and pepper at the grill and nothing else, because good beef should taste like beef. The sauce
The Hot House gets our in-house chilli mayo, a slow-burn sauce we mix in the kitchen from mayonnaise, fresh chillies, a touch of garlic and a hit of paprika. It is made on site, not squeezed from a catering bottle, and it is the flavour regulars ask us to bottle up.
Stack that alongside the fresh green chillies on top of the patty and you get two layers of heat: fast on the first bite from the green chilli, slow on the swallow from the mayo. Lively, not painful.
The bun
A soft, toasted white bun. Not brioche, which is too sweet and falls apart under a double patty. Not a heavy seeded roll, which gets in the way of the good stuff. Just a soft bun toasted on the griddle so it holds together from our kitchen to your kitchen table in Kingstanding or Pheasey.
What's in the Kebys Hot House, and how spicy is it?
The Hot House is our signature for a reason. It is double beef, cheese, green chillies, salad and in-house chilli mayo in that toasted bun, £7.29 on its own, £8.79 with small fries, or £9.79 with large fries and a drink.
On heat, it sits medium-hot. The green chillies bring a bright, fresh kick and the chilli mayo trails behind it with a warmer, rounder burn. It is properly lively without being a dare. If chilli is not your thing, ask for it without the green chillies and you still get the double patty, the cheese and the mayo. If you are chasing more, add a pot of our chilli sauce for 30p. Heat is personal, so we let you dial it up or down.

Crispy chicken fillet, salad and mayo, for when you would rather skip the beef.
Halloumi Burger (V), £7.29 / £8.79 / £9.79
Our proper vegetarian option, not an afterthought. Grilled halloumi, salad and your choice of sauce in the same toasted bun. It matches the Hot House on price because halloumi is not cheap and we use a decent slab of it. How do you upgrade a Kebys burger?
A burger is a fine solo act, but a few additions turn it into a proper meal:
- Add fries and a drink for £2 on any burger, the easiest meal-deal maths going.
- Onion Rings, £3.49. Crisp, slightly sweet and built for dunking in chilli mayo.
- Garlic Bread, £3.99. Carb-on-carb is allowed on a Friday.
- Something sweet: a cheesecake slice (£3.99) or an ice cream (£2.99) to finish.

Burger or kebab: which should you order?
Fair question, because the other half of Kebys is the lamb. Our slow-roasted Cypriot lamb doner is over 90 per cent lamb, cooked on the spit, and it is the order that put us on the map in B43. If you genuinely cannot choose, the Mixed Meat doner at £7.99 folds lamb and chicken into one wrap, and the Munchbox simply gives you a burger and a kebab in the same box. Nobody is judging.
For big appetites feeding a crowd, look past the singles altogether. The burger sits inside our sharing deals too, so a match night in Great Barr or a birthday out in Sutton Coldfield can be sorted in one order rather than five.

We are at 3 Bowstoke Road, Great Barr, B43 5EB, just off Newton Road and about five minutes from the Scott Arms. We are open Tuesday to Saturday 4pm to 10pm and Sunday 3pm to 8pm, closed Monday, with free parking right outside.
